After a five-year wait, the second season of the enigmatic and deceptively horrific anime Made in Abyss is finally here! While the first season was available on Prime Video, you’ll need to sign up with the anime streaming service HIDIVE to see the new episodes in English when they air in Japan on July 6, 2022. Whether you’re new to the series or have cheerfully forgotten about Season 1, here’s everything you need to know before diving into Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, aka Season 2.
Made in Abyss Season 2 Plot
The second season of Made in Abyss, titled The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, will pick up the narrative where the third movie, Dawn of the Deep Soul, which was released in 2020, left off.
In spite of the fact that this is really the third section of the plot as it is told through the anime, it is still being referred to as the second season of the series. After the conclusion of the first season of the anime, there were two compilation films and a third movie released that resumed the tale from where it left off.
All of this is based on the manga series Made in Abyss, which was created by Akihito Tsukushi and has been published since 2012. There have been a total of ten volumes published so far.
It is not known how much of this new arc will be adapted in this season; some fans feel that the ending may be saved for another movie, while others believe that it will all be resolved in the season. However, this information has not been confirmed.
The second season of Made in Abyss will consist of a single cour’s worth of content, containing all twelve episodes. The information was made public through the preliminary advertisements for the Made in Abyss Season 2 DVD, which would have two collections of six episodes each.
Made in Abyss Season 2 Release Date
As part of the Summer anime season, the first episode of the second season of Made in Abyss is scheduled to air on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.
It is scheduled to air on AT-X at 22:30 local time in Japan, marking the debut of the second season. After that, new episodes of the series will consistently air at this hour each week.
The title has been given a license by Sentai Filmworks, the company that owns HIDIVE, and Anime News Network has claimed that it is going to be released “in digital and home video.”
HIDIVE will often begin simulcasting television shows an hour after they have first shown in Japan. Keeping this in mind, the following is a rundown of the times at which we anticipate the new season to make its debut across the globe on July 6.
Where can I watch the new season?
Season 2 will begin simulcasting in English exclusively on the anime streaming service HIDIVE on July 6, 2022.
What Is This Show About?
Riko, a youthful explorer, ventures deeper and deeper into the Abyss, a canyon that is becoming more and more dangerous. She is accompanied by her helpful robotic companion Reg, who possesses a peculiar power and suffers from a mystery from his past.
Up until the point that we get a better glimpse at what exactly occurs down within the Abyss, everything appears to be rather quaint or adorable. It is rife with enormous supernatural entities that are superior to Riko and Reg in every way and pose a threat to them at every turn, often going to extremely horrific lengths. It is extremely difficult to watch tour de force of the craziness that is sci-fi anime.

Where Do I Watch the First Season?
Even though the first season is available to watch for free on Prime Video, you would be better off viewing it on HIDIVE because not only does it have the two recap movies, but it also has the sequel movie and will be the only location streaming the new season.
There is not much of a difference between Season 1 and the two recap movies, Journey’s Dawn and Wandering Twilight, but in order to get caught up on everything, you will absolutely need to watch the third movie.
The first two Made in Abyss movies are essentially just recaps of the first season, but the third movie, “Dawn of the Deep Soul,” is a legitimate sequel that begins just where the first season left off. It encompasses a full story arc, which you will need to be familiar with in order to understand what Riko and Reg are up to in Season 2 of the show. At this time, you can only see it via streaming it on HIDIVE in either English or Japanese.
Will there be a third season?
If it does occur, it won’t be for a very long time at all, even if it does! In spite of the fact that we do not yet know how long Season 2 will be, based on the nerd math I’ve done, I believe that it will be possible to adapt the Iruburu arc in approximately ten episodes.
And because new chapters of the manga are only released every so often, the next story arc has just begun, which means that there won’t be enough source material to translate into another anime for a very, very long time. And this doesn’t even take into account the amount of time it takes the people behind the anime to create it in the first place! But, well, at least there’s a video game that’s coming out that looks incredibly cheesy!
