Tony and Lynn Forbes, the parents of AKA, acknowledged his passing in a statement provided to Rolling Stone.
“It is with profound sorrow that we recognize our cherished son’s departure and confirm his untimely and tragic demise on the evening of February 10, 2023. We are expecting additional information from Durban police,” the statement read.
“For us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, but above all, he was the father of his beloved daughter Kairo,” his parents wrote.
“His legion of devoted supporters affectionately referred to him as AKA, Supa Mega, Bhova, and numerous other nicknames. Our son was cherished and returned that affection.
According to police sources in Durban, AKA was killed in a drive-by shooting, as reported by the Times. According to IOL, a person thought to be AKA’s bodyguard was also injured.
According to the news source, a second unidentified person believed to be AKA’s close buddy has also been tragically shot. The Times also said that AKA was standing in front of a renowned restaurant when he was murdered.

Garrith Jamieson, an ALS paramedic, told TimesLIVE that they went to a shooting after 10:15 p.m. on Friday.
“Upon arrival, paramedics encountered complete chaos and two guys in their late 30s with multiple gunshot wounds,” stated Jamieson.
Unfortunately, the first man sustained several gunshot wounds, displayed no signs of life, and was pronounced dead at the site by the paramedics. Unknown is the motive behind the shooting.
Friday morning, the rapper wrote on Instagram about his forthcoming album, Mass Country, which will be released later this month.
