Taffer was born into a business family. In 1973, while playing drums in a band, he worked as a bartender for the first time at Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood. In 1978, Taffer got his first job running a bar at The Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood. In 1981, when staff theft was common, he was given full control of the bar. In 1989, he opened his first bar as a business owner.
In 1989, Taffer got a patent for a device and a way to choose and play music. People say that Taffer made the NFL Sunday Ticket pay programming package, which came out in 1994.
