Is Gojo Inspired by Kakashi? Separating Fact from Fiction!
Gojo Satoru is one of the most adored characters in the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom. The man with the blindfold is intelligent and powerful. We cannot ignore his influence on the narrative, even though he is also incredibly silly. He is nearly the main character rather than a supporting one.
The community has been persuaded of one thing ever since Jujutsu Kaisen and Gojo came to light: Gojo Satoru was inspired by Naruto’s Kakashi.
Since Naruto’s inception, Kakashi has been a beloved character among fans. He was a tutor to Team 7, and among Konoha’s numerous elite shinobi, he is immediately identifiable thanks to his white hair and slanted, eye-covering forehead protector.
He was an incredibly powerful character for the whole of the original series because of the Sharingan, which was visible in his eye.
If Gojo was indeed a tribute to the iconic figure, it wouldn’t have come as a surprise. In the manga, Gege Akutami has previously made a few allusions. Pop culture has been referenced frequently in the anime’s episodes as well.
For a coincidence, Gojo and Kakashi share a lot of similarities. Nobody can fail to notice their most striking resemblance at first glance. With their white hair, they look a lot like one another. Furthermore, if one eye counts, they have their eyes covered.
When it comes to eyes, Kakashi and Gojo have something in common. They possess special eye-related abilities. Despite their differences, the Sharingan and the Six-Eyes method serve as Kakashi and Gojo’s distinguishing characteristics. They serve as the characters’ teachers as well.
It was easy to notice how similar they were. However, Akutami disclosed that Satoru was inspired by someone else, much to the chagrin of Kakashi supporters.
Who Served as the Inspiration for the Beloved Gojo?
Given that he isn’t a big character in comparison to other shinobi from the popular series, Gojo was influenced by Tonbo Tobitake, a shinobi that Naruto fans may or may not remember. Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, was quoted on Twitter on Naruto’s influence on the series and Gojo’s design.
Similar to Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen centers on a youthful hero who, despite his reckless behavior, defends people around him while under the influence of a creature capable of doing havoc.
As they strive to get stronger, Naruto and Itadori act as living prisons. Given these parallels, it is not surprising that such connections—even with regard to the mentors’ character designs—would be suggested. But Akutami reveals Tonbo Tobitake, a minor Naruto character who influenced Gojo’s appearance.
According to Akutami:
Regarding Gojo’s character creation, Kakashi-sensei had less of an influence than the proctor who wore the blindfold and bandages on his head during the second part of the Chuunin Exams. When I eventually got to meet Kishimoto-sensei and asked him about the character design, he responded, “Was there a guy like that…?”
Tonbo Tobitake is a proctor for the Chunin Exams, as the quote states. He made his debut in chapter 40 of the manga and the third episode of Naruto. His forehead protector rests over his eyes, and the bandages around his head conceal most of his head and upper face.
Gojo wears an eye covering as well, but he has been known to take it off in order to do his Six Eyes jujutsu. Given that both characters have spiky white hair, it makes sense that this characteristic would appear to have been influenced by Kakashi’s Sharingan.
Even in relation to his originator, Tobitake is not a well-known figure. Based on his current appearances inside Naruto, he hasn’t shown to possess any particular skills.
Other than being a Chunin who works for the Konohagakure Intelligence Division to collect and evaluate information, he appears to be unremarkable in many respects. Even though Satoru Gojo looked a lot like Kakashi Hitake, the famous Naruto mentor was not the basis for him.
