Invincible Season 2 Release Date: What to Expect From Invincible Season 2?

The second season of the hit adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic book series Invincible by Prime Video will premiere sometime in 2019.

The information was revealed in an exclusive interview conducted by Steven Weintraub of Collider with Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon Studios, during a discussion about the success of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video, which was viewed by over 100 million people worldwide and streamed for over 24 billion minutes.

In March 2021, Invincible debuted on Prime Video, quickly becoming one of the streaming service’s greatest successes in its history.

Unsurprisingly, the company renewed the animated series for a third season, giving the adaptation’s creative team ample time to plan which stories to bring to the series next. Despite the fans’ enthusiasm for Invincible Season 2, we did not yet know when the show would return.

During our interview with Sanders, we inquired about the status of Season 2 of Invincible. Sanders initially attempted to play coy and told us, “2023 will be a great year for people.” Sanders gave us a resounding “yes” in response to our request for direct confirmation that new episodes would premiere in 2023.

Then it’s official. In 2023, Invincible will return for Season 2. We are eagerly awaiting the release of new episodes because we cannot wait to see what happens next on the show.

What’s Invincible About?

In Invincible, written by Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) adjusts to his newly discovered superpowers.

Mark is expected to be unbeatable as the son of Earth’s most powerful protector, Omni-Man (voiced by J.K. Simmons), but his path to becoming a hero is filled with blood, guts, and tears.

The first season of the show followed Mark as he learned that his father is not as noble as everyone believes, providing superhero fans with the best “evil Superman” story ever created.

While the series was criticized for its hasty animation process, the well-paced writing and outstanding voice acting won our hearts. With Season 2 having been in the oven for so long, the series should return with an even greater spectacle.

In Invincible, Jason Mantzoukas, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Mark Hamill, and Mahershala Ali also lend their voices. Since April of last year, the voice cast has been recording episodes, so it shouldn’t be too long before we have a more precise release date.

The first season of Invincible is currently available on Prime Video. The second season will premiere in 2023. Watch our exclusive interview with Robert Kirkman for more on Invincible.

What To Expect From Invincible Season 2?

The first season of Invincible concludes with a montage of all the villains that the heroic high school student must face in the second installment. Furthermore, it leaves Mark’s relationship with Omni-Man in a shocking state. In the conclusion of Invincible, Omni-Man attempts to recruit Mark.

He is unsuccessful but easily defeats his son. In doing so, Omni-Man destroys Chicago and murders a large number of people. Even though Omini-Man abandons Earth in the end, moved by his love for his family, the damage he causes is evident everywhere.

Regarding what else can be expected from the second season of Invincible, Kirkman has mentioned the arrival of Angstrom Levy. Levy is a man with the ability to travel to alternate realities in the comics.

Although it is unknown when or how he acquired these abilities, he blames Mark for his disfigurement and becomes a significant recurring threat to the main character. This suggests that the protagonist will have to deal with more than just the emotional and physical consequences of Omni-Man.

Invincible Season 2 Potential Release Date

The second season of Invincible will premiere in 2023, according to a report by Collider.

Kirkman stated to Collider prior to the announcement, “The production schedule is somewhat daunting. I believe that we spent many years developing and preparing for this season. As we progress, hopefully, into Season 2 and beyond, the situation will tighten.

“As we move into our second season, there is unquestionably a great deal less designing and new things that must occur. And it is entirely possible that work on the second season has already been completed. Therefore, I believe we are in a good position to move forward, should this show be a success.”

It is important to remember that Kirkman has been hard at work on The Walking Dead’s final season, which will bring the long-running zombie show to a close later this year.

However, the show’s head writer, Simon Racioppa, told Tech Radar that they’ve been working on the second season for “longer than I believe most people realize, but it takes time. It’s a major event.”

“We’ve been working on it for a while,” he said. We are diligently working on it. Every day that Robert works on it, I work on it as well. We’re discussing it, and the process is well underway.”

Invincible Season 2 Plot

After failing to murder Mark and enslave the human race for the Viltrumite Empire, the last time we saw Omni-Man he was flying into space, bound for an unknown location.

Season 2 will likely focus on Mark’s efforts to keep Earth safe from the Viltrumites while also aiding the Coalition of Planets, in response to Cecil’s request. In addition to the Martian Sequids that have infiltrated Earth via an astronaut, Mark’s attempts to finish high school and maintain his relationship with Amber are even more frightening.

Kirkman told The AV Club that the montage at the end of the final episode of Season 1 is a good place to look for hints about Season 2’s plot.

“With the montage, I wanted to remind the audience of the many threads we had and show them that everything that happened in Season 1 was significant,” he said.

Even minute details will play a significant role in the future. I desired to incorporate many more of those pops, but it had become absurd.

“It also suggests that Nolan is off the table for the time being, so Mark no longer has a mentor, but the problems remain.” Now, moving forward, we will see a very different Invincible who must figure things out on his own.

It sets the stage for Season 2 and beyond to tell a different story, which is what you want from a show like this. You want each season to have a distinctive flavour, atmosphere, and character development.”

Kirkman also teased the arrival of one of Mark’s primary adversaries in the comics, Angstrom Levy. In a panel discussion for Skybound Xpo Invincible, he stated, “[Levy] really shakes things up.

“If you’ve read the comics and seen the TV show, you’ll have a good idea of where we’re going with the second season, especially if you consider how we adapted the story in the first season.”

Invincible Season 1 Recap

Invincibles is a fantastic television program. The amount of character development and progression exhibited over the course of eight episodes made me feel incredibly attached to every single character on the show. How do superheroes coexist in reality? is how I would describe it in a single sentence. Since so much of this show feels so authentic.

The fights are significant because, for a change, each defeat and victory is contingent on actual factors. People are crushed, slashed, beheaded, pushed through a wall, or pushed through a wall. It is as violent and intense as it possibly can be, but for all the right reasons. The humor is complex, and the protagonists can be incredibly douchebags. Amidst all of this is a difficult mystery that takes its time, introduces characters, develops the world, and most importantly, adheres to the source material.

Mark Grayson (Voiced by Steven Yeun) finally obtains his powers thanks to his father, Omni-Man, the most powerful being in the universe (Voiced by J.K. Simmons). Yet Mark’s struggle to become a superhero is arduous and fraught with poor decisions and even worse repercussions.

Concurrently, Omni-man is engaged in a shady enterprise, which becomes prominent by the end of the first episode. Mark Grayson becomes invincible, but now his greatest challenge is maintaining the superhero life balance that he so values.

At his core, he is merely a teenager who wants to hang out with his girlfriend while simultaneously saving the world, and through the course of events, he discovers that accomplishing this feat is more difficult than he originally believed.

Numerous heroes coexist in this world, including the matter bender, Atom Eve, the extremely intelligent Robot, the borderline Douchey, Rex, and the girl who keeps getting younger whenever she transforms into a monster.

Invincible Season 1 Critical Reception

The consensus for the first season of Invincible on Rotten Tomatoes is “With bold animation, bloody action, and an all-star cast led by the charming Steven Yeun, Invincible intelligently adapts its source material without sacrificing its nuanced perspective on the cost of superpowers.” It has a 73 Metascore.
