Even if we consider both Naruto and Boruto to be a single narrative entity, Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki’s plot is among the more intriguing. Even among his clan members, Momoshiki is genuinely unique, which is why he merits the attention he has been receiving despite the fact that his clan has a long history of renown.

In order to use the Parent and Child Rasengan, Naruto then gave Boruto his chakra. Sasuke diverts Momoshiki’s attention in the meantime, allowing Boruto to attack.
The original attacked him with the Rasengan after Boruto unexpectedly used a shadow clone to cripple his right Rinnegan. Momoshiki attempted to counter him with his own Rasengan, but he was unable to hold back, received the blow, and was ultimately destroyed.
For a brief moment, Momoshiki’s soul lived on, stating that Boruto could sense him because of the Byakugan wielders’ blood inside of him.
He is confronted by Momoshiki, who observes that although he was unable to predict his own destiny, he could clearly see Boruto’s. He informs Boruto that he will lose everything one day because to his blue eyes, and that a person who overcomes God will no longer be considered a regular person.
Momoshiki leaves a mark on his hand before vanishing, telling him to keep moving forward toward that fate.
Before Boruto’s spirit vanished, Momoshiki gave him his Kāma, transforming him into his vessel with the intention of reviving him. When Boruto uses a lot of chakra and takes complete control of his body, the mark gives him a number of exceptional skills and permits Momoshiki to appear via it for a set amount of time.
This causes Kāma markings to spread across Boruto’s right side, creating a horn and transforming his right eye into a Byakugan.
In addition to being able to absorb chakra through the mark and considerably enhance physical assaults and techniques, Momoshiki retains Boruto’s knowledge of and access to techniques. He can also open gateways to enter different dimensions.
For What Reason is Momoshiki in Boruto?
We have to understand the nature of the Kama seal in order to understand why Momoshiki entered Boruto’s body. Kāma is a seal that, in the event that a member of the Ōtsutsuki clan is about to die, acts as a backup of their biological information and is embedded in the body of their selected user, designating them as a conduit for Ōtsutsuki’s will.
Kama gradually changes the genetic profile of the vessel until his body fully changes into an identical replica of Ōtsutsuki. The Ōtsutsuki eventually resuscitate the vessel after taking over its body the instant Kama vanishes.
A Ōtsutsuki who is killed will have his soul transferred to one of the available vessels, and he will be revived through the body of his vessel after the Kāma unpacking process is finished.
The vessel can learn to activate Kāma and utilize some of the Ōtsutsuki’s powers and skills during the decompression process; at certain stages, it may even enable the Ōtsutsuki’s will to appear and take control of its body.
Unless the individual is a suitable vessel, the ritual is usually lethal, and compatibility with Ōtsutsuki is very uncommon and unpredictable.
A special kind of this seal known as the White Kāma, which appears on a person who is not eligible to become a vessel, can occasionally be created when an inappropriate vessel survives the ceremony.
Such individuals cannot be used in the reincarnation process because they are unable to act as a vessel for the Ōtsutsuki’s soul. They can even change into a brand-new Ōtsutsuki, yet they still have other seal abilities.
As you can see, the reason Momoshiki is within Boruto’s body in the first place is explained by the very nature of the Kāma seal. Members of the Ōtsutsuki clan specifically employ the Kāma seal as a kind of lifeline.
Isshiki and Momoshiki are the only clan members known to have utilized the Kāma thus far, and they both did so in order to escape death. Ironically, Momoshiki chose to take possession of his killer’s body in order to survive and eventually rise again when Boruto finally vanquished him.
Can Momoshiki Leave Boruto?
It is yet unknown if Momoshiki will be able to depart Boruto’s body permanently. We don’t know for sure, but if Momoshiki is as strong as we believe him to be and this seal is something he chooses to do rather than something he has to do, then he should be able to leave Boruto’s body.
Given that his genetic code is gradually ingrained in Boruto and that he can materialize when Boruto runs out of chakra, it is quite likely that he could exit Boruto’s body if he so desired.
To date, Momoshiki has made multiple appearances. The first occasion occurred when Sarada destroyed the core of Boro’s Shinobi Regenerative Implant during the fight to save Naruto from Boro.
This caused Boro to turn into a monster and go on a rampage, almost murdering the four members of the team. However, Boruto accidentally woke Momoshiki up with his Kāma just seconds before Boro could strike the fatal blow.
Before realizing that Boruto was almost out of chakra, Momoshiki laughed at Boro as he easily repressed his taijutsu after taking control of his body and avoiding an early blow by flying into the air.
Momoshiki recalled the name of Boruto’s favorite technique and unleashed a gigantic Rasengan that annihilated Boro after absorbing chakra from an unconscious Naruto.
After removing the threat, Momoshiki stated that Boruto should not yet lose everything, and as Kāma started to regress, his personality diminished. Boruto was unable to recall what had happened when he came to.

After concluding that Boruto’s Kāma development was nearly finished and that, as Momoshiki’s vessel, he would make a great sacrifice to transform the Ten-Tails into a God Tree, Kara’s founder later stripped the boy of his abilities by breaking his arm and back during the battle with Isshiki.
Naruto and Sasuke swiftly saved Boruto, but he was soon rendered comatose. When Naruto and Sasuke reached their breaking points in the conflict, Isshiki was able to call Kawaki to him in order to give him a fresh Kāma mark before his unavoidable demise. That’s when Momoshiki wakes up once more.
As his body starts to dissolve to dust, Kawaki employs a shadow clone to stop Isshiki from reincarnating with Kāma in the future, and Momoshiki chooses to remain undetected.
When Naruto and Sasuke are severely hurt and Isshiki finally passes away, Momoshiki surprises everyone by piercing Sasuke’s left eye with a kunai, killing his Rinnegan before anyone can respond.
He immediately assumes a fighting posture and declares that they are the only thing standing in his way going forward and that he never thought they could beat Isshiki. After successfully neutralizing Sasuke’s space-time ninjutsu, Momoshiki started fighting him and Kawaki.
He was ready to plant the God Tree after noticing that Kāma Kawaki’s skills had advanced significantly, making him a potential target.
Sasuke concluded that Boruto’s personality would return if his chakra was restored after observing that Momoshiki refrained from absorbing any jutsu during combat. After rendering Sasuke unconscious with Boruto’s Disappearing Rasengan, Momoshiki made his way to Kawaki.
Boruto wakes up after Kawaki starts purposefully burning himself, prompting Momoshiki to absorb the flames. Boruto then tears off Momoshiki’s horn and regains control of his body.
