Elsbeth Season 1 Recap
Elsbeth is sent by the US Department of Justice to watch the NYPD from the outside, as part of the Consent Decree.
After Olivia, a first-year acting student, is stabbed on stage, Professor Alex Modarian switches pills in her purse, leading to Olivia’s death. Elsbeth discovers evidence of Alex sleeping with Olivia’s students, including a diaphragm case and a missing SIM card.
Elsbeth meets Officer Kaya Blanke and Detective Smullen, but they feel uneasy about her presence. She notices evidence of Alex talking to other students about Olivia’s cast loss and the case being thrown out as a suicide.
Elsbeth meets Alex’s acting classmate, Lana, and learns that he slept with different students every term.
Elsbeth suspects Alex may have written texts and copied Olivia’s SIM card. He identifies another student named Todd, who writes for him using Old Irish Deodorant. DNA tests prove that Todd was with Olivia, and he copied and pasted Alex’s courses.
Elsbeth finds the SIM card reader on Todd, but Wagner, Smullen, and other police officers catch him. Elsbeth gets the job for good, and Wagner thanks her for her work.
