Dua Lipa Disputes 2022 World Cup Participation and Urges Qatar to Uphold Human Rights Obligations

Dua Lipa has taken to social media in order to refute rumors that she will be performing at the FIFA 2022 World Cup, which is scheduled to get underway on November 20 in Qatar, the host nation.

There were rumblings that Dua Lipa was going to perform during the opening ceremony, but the singer has stated that this will not take place under any circumstances. “Currently, there are many assumptions that I will speak during the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar,” Lipa wrote in a message that was uploaded on her Instagram account. I will not speak, and I have never taken part in any kind of discussion or negotiation. to carry out I shall be cheering for England even if I won’t be there.”

Then she continued by saying, “I am looking forward to seeing Qatar when it meets all of the human rights promises it made when it won the right to host the World Cup.”

Constant criticism is directed at both Qatar and the organizers of the World Cup in connection with the deaths of migrant workers during the construction of stadiums and the country’s attitude toward homosexuality, which is criminalized in Qatar.

Gareth Southgate, the coach of the England national team, has pledged that his players will discuss violations of human rights while they are competing in the competition. We have always discussed topics that we believe should be discussed, focusing particularly on those over which we believe we have some control.

“With regard to the LGBT community, we advocate for inclusiveness, and we are really adamant in this regard. This is something that we believe is crucial for all of our backers,” he went on to say.

This transpired as a direct result of comedian Joe Lycett issuing a demand to David Beckham to cease his involvement with the forthcoming World Cup. Lycett blasted Beckham for his ten million pound sponsorship arrangement with Qatar and offered to pay ten thousand pounds of his own money to LGBT charities if Beckham pulled out of the sponsorship deal before to the event.

At the beginning of this month, it was announced that Jungkook of BTS would be performing at the opening ceremony of the 2019 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Qatar.
