Don Mclean Announces a 50th Anniversary Tour for “American Pie”

In 2023, the legendary American songwriter and singer Don McLean will make a trip to Australia to celebrate the half-century anniversary of the release of the landmark album and song, “American Pie.”

McLean will be accompanied on his 19-date tour of Australia by INXS keyboardist and primary composer Andrew Farriss, who will be performing in solo mode.

Since its initial release in 1971, “American Pie” has risen up the ranks to become one of the most successful songs in the history of American music. The original recording of ‘American Pie’ was selected for inclusion in the US National Recording Registry in 2017. This honour was bestowed upon the recording in recognition of its “cultural, historical, or artistically significant” status.

The song, clocking in at eight minutes and forty-two seconds, retained the record as the longest song to ever hit number one until the year 2021, when it was surpassed by another song. The record was finally beaten by Taylor Swift, whose song “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” lasts for a total of ten minutes and thirteen seconds, making it longer than the previous record.

McLean expressed his excitement at returning to Australia with his band in a statement, saying, “I am excited to be heading back to Australia.” “The year 2022 will commemorate the half-century anniversary of the year that ‘American Pie’ debuted at the top of the Billboard chart, and we will be honouring this momentous occasion. We’ll be performing songs from the American Pie album in addition to many of the other hits that fans will be anticipating hearing from us.

Tickets for the “American Pie” 50th anniversary tour, which will be performed by Don McLean, will go on sale here on Friday, November 11 at 9:00 am local time.
