Do I Need a Wedding Planner for My Wedding? | What Do Wedding Planners Do? Answers from Imtazur Rahman!

After months, years, or, even, decades of being together with the one you love, it’s finally time to tie that age-old knot that would bring you together in the eyes of the public for what could very well be the rest of your life.

It’s only right then, that you reserve a significant amount of time making sure that it’s exactly how you want it. And for that? You might want the services of a Wedding Planner!

Today, we brought in Imtazur Rahman (a wedding planner whose uniquely male perspective brings a new level of practicality to the event planning industry) to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about wedding planning. Starting with the big question:

What Do Wedding Planners Do?

Imtazur Rahman: Not to be confused with a Wedding Coordinator (who also have a place in the industry for the immediate kind of planning), a wedding planner is someone that really dives deep into the logistics of a wedding.

If you hire a planner like me, it is my responsibility to make everything as easy for you as possible. I help my clients research and hire vendors, I work out the event itself so that things go smoothly, I make sure that everything that needs to be paid for is paid for, I contact vendors to make sure that everything is available on schedule, and so on.

Wedding Planner – Imtazur Rahman

Imtazur Rahman: Let’s put it this way. Everything that I described just now? Anyone can learn how to do that after some amount of time. But the thing is, most people don’t really have to plan more than one wedding in their lives — so learning how to do all that a wedding planner does, is probably not everyone’s idea of good fun, especially since it can get pretty stressful when juggling it with work and everyday life.

And that’s not even taking into account that, for most people, this one wedding is the most important (because it’s theirs). So, mistakes are not welcome.

What a wedding planner like me can do for your wedding is make sure that everything goes right. I bring to the table a decade’s worth of experience successfully planning the wedding of others. I know how to make sure that you stay on budget, I know the best wedding venues in the area, I’m in close contact with vendors that can make even the most obscure of weddings work. Simply put, I’ve planned hundreds of successful weddings before, and with that experience, I can make sure that your special day is just as successful.

Should I Hire a Wedding Planner?

Imtazur Rahman: It’s entirely up to you and your own specific circumstances. I’ve just answered why most people might want or need a wedding planner for their wedding. But I can understand that not everyone could or should hire one.

How about this? Have a look at these questions, if you say yes to all or most of them, then my recommendation is that you hire a planner for your wedding:

  • Does your budget allow for the addition of a planner?
  • Do you want to keep your wedding experience stress-free?
  • Do you and your partner work? If so, are your work hours demanding?
  • Is this your first time ever planning a wedding?
  • Does your wedding day seem like it’s coming too soon?
  • Are you planning a non-traditional wedding?

Again, if your answer to all or most of these questions is yes? You should probably hire a wedding planner.

How Do I Find a Good Wedding Planner?

Imtazur Rahman: A lot of my clients come to me via word-of-mouth — a friend, family member, colleague, etc. of theirs had their wedding arranged by me and recommended that I do the work for them. If you want a good wedding planner? I recommend that you do the same. Think of the last couple of weddings that you’ve attended or just ask around your community. You’ll find the best and most reputable wedding planners that way!

When Should I Hire a Wedding Planner?

Imtazur Rahman: It can never be too soon, really. You can hire one before you even propose if that’s what you want. But, as a rule of thumb, once you’ve established the general time frame that you want your wedding to occur, whether that’s a specific date or something vaguer (and I do mean that, even as vague as ‘sometime next year’ will do), book a wedding planner.

They won’t be too actively involved in the proceedings until you’re closer to the date. But not only will hiring them early mean that you’ve assured yourself of their service. They can also point you in the right direction as far as venues or vendors go so that you can make the most out of your budget and time.
