Complete Information Regarding the Targaryen Family Tree!
Game of Thrones viewers were devastated when the show ended. However, the recently published House of the Dragon has received an outstanding reception from the audience, which has gradually begun to overcome their sadness following Game of Thrones. House of Dragon serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones, transporting viewers 200 years before the events of the original series.
It focuses on the Targaryen family and their inner problems. If you’re familiar with George R.R. Martin’s books and stories, you’ll know that before the events of Game of Thrones, the seven kingdoms were controlled by Targaryens. This is reflected in some sequences from the original series.
House of Dragon depicts the Targaryen dominion and their dominance over the Iron Throne. Understanding the relationships between the characters is one of the most significant confusions in the series, despite the fact that many individuals have faced this in the Game of Thrones series. Everything, from their name to their past and familial ties, becomes entangled pretty soon.
However, things were more complicated for the Targaryens in the beginning. This is primarily due to their family’s marriages, royal ties, and dragon-rider background. All of these characteristics are explored in the prequel series “House of the Dragon.”
Targaryen Family Tree
Check out the Targaryen family tree first before moving on to the in-depth descriptions of each individual character. The tree begins with Aegon Targaryens and ends with Jon Snow, and it explains how each member of the Targaryen family is connected to one another.
Viserys I Targaryen
Viserys I, the fifth king of the Targaryens dynasty and current occupant of the Iron Throne, is shown to us in the opening scene of the first episode of House of the Dragon. He is commonly referred to as “the Conciliator,” and he was frequently compared to Aegon I, the Conqueror, who was the first to establish the Targaryen dominion across Westeros and peacefully govern over 7 Houses.
Because dragon riders are a part of the Targaryen dynasty, Viserys I is also a dragon rider. He rides Balerion, the dragon that his father, Aegon I, used to ride. We also learn that after the unthinkable loss of Balerion, Viserys vows to never again ride a dragon of any kind.
Rhaenyra Targaryen
Viserys I only has one child, a girl named Rhaenyra, and she is being groomed to take her father’s place on the Iron Throne. She follows in her father’s footsteps as a dragon rider and is the proud owner of a dragon named Syrax. Even her father, Viserys I, believes that she should be the rightful heir to the throne of Westeros because she has all of the qualifications necessary to rule the land.
Her life recounts her battle with her brother for the throne and her sad marriages. She had three children with her first husband, Ser Laenor Velaryon, but he passed away some time later. At one point, she was married to Ser Laenor Velaryon. After that, she wed her uncle, Prince Daemon Targaryen, and the union had three offspring: a boy, two daughters, and another son. However, she lost her husband a second time, and the news of his passing was withheld from her for a considerable amount of time until her half-brother Aegon ascended to the Iron Throne. You’ll learn throughout the course of the series how these two individuals were the primary contributors to the outbreak of the Civil War.
Daemon Targaryen
Prince Baelon Targaryen and Alyssa are the parents of Daemon, who was named after the latter. He is the younger brother of Viserys I, and just like his older brother, he is a dragon rider. He has the same name as his older brother. He was married to Rhea Royce, who was killed in an accident involving a horse. Later on, he wed Laena Velaryon, whose mother was of the Targaryen bloodline, and they had a child together. Together, Daemon and Velaryon are the parents of two girls.
Laena passed away while giving birth to their child, and the daemon went on to marry Laena’s niece, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. This was the daemon’s third marriage. They have three children as a couple: two daughters and a son. In the series, he was his largest backer in trying to capture the Iron Throne for himself.
Aegon Targaryen
Although he is the eldest son of King Viserys, Aegon Targaryen is not the true brother of Daenerys Targaryen. He was the offspring of Viserys and Alicent Hightower, who was her second husband. Despite the fact that she was the rightful successor to the Iron Throne, King Viserys was adamant that her daughter should ascend to the throne as the future queen. This was the point at which Aegon became disappointed and began plotting his ascension to the throne as Conqueror. In addition to it, he was a dragon rider and owned Sunfyre.
