His reputation as a talented guitarist in San Antonio’s Tejano music scene caught the attention of Selena’s brother, A.B Quintanilla. In 1990, Chris auditioned for and joined Selena y Los Dinos, embarking on a new chapter in his musical journey.

Despite his initial admiration for Selena’s music, Chris maintained a strictly professional relationship with her. However, their connection deepened during a band trip to Acapulco, sponsored by Coca-Cola. It was there that Chris witnessed Selena’s genuine self-expression and felt the first sparks of romance between them.

Their budding relationship faced challenges but grew stronger, culminating in their secret marriage in 1992.
