Carmella Discusses Ectopic Pregnancy And Miscarriage In Open Letter

Carmella (Leah Van Dale), a former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, took to Instagram to share an open and vulnerable post about a recent ectopic pregnancy as well as a previously undisclosed miscarriage. The post was met with a lot of negative feedback, which is understandable given the nature of the subject matter.

Carmella wrote: “I’ve gone back and forth with myself about posting this because I’m not looking for any sort of sympathy,” noting that she wanted to share her story in honour of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. “I’ve gone back and forth with myself about posting this because I’m not looking for any sort of sympathy.” Carmella proceeded by saying, “Today, I was evaluated and treated for an ectopic pregnancy.” “I never believed something like this would happen to me, especially after suffering through an early loss in September,” she said. “I never expected something like this would happen to me.” Following complaints of discomfort in her side on the previous Saturday, Carmella reports that she was forced to spend the better part of a day in the emergency room.

“I had to go through a number of tests and ultrasounds before I was finally told the heartbreaking news that this was in fact an abnormal pregnancy.” Carmella stated that the time can feel “isolating,” but she felt the need to share her story to prevent other women from blaming themselves for the tragic event. She gave credit to popular stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger for inspiring her by sharing her own story of miscarriage in a recent standup special. Carmella said that Iliza Shlesinger’s story inspired her to share her own.

Carmella avowed, “I’m a part of this statistic, and it’s happening to me,” while expressing her frustration with the situation. “I want to emphasise once more that I am not searching for anyone’s sympathy since I am confident that I will eventually heal from all of this on all fronts—mentally, physically, and emotionally. I want anyone who is going through any kind of pregnancy loss to know that their feelings and emotions are valid, that there is NOTHING wrong with them, and that they are not alone in their experience.”

Since April of this year, Carmella has been married to Corey Graves, who is a commentator for WWE and goes by the name Matthew Polinsky.

Wrestling Inc. wants Carmella and Graves to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them as they go through this difficult time.
