Blue Origin reveals $28 million auction runner-up to join Jeff Bezos in space

Next week, an 18-year-old boy will journey into space alongside Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Oliver Damon is the name of this gentleman. He will be the world’s youngest astronaut. On Tuesday, New Shepard, the spacecraft built by Bezos’ company ‘Blue Origin,’ will launch into space.

This spacecraft had a vacant seat, which was auctioned. The sale drew 7,600 bidders from 159 nations. The seat was sold for $28 million (nearly Rs 200 crore) to the highest bidder, but he declined to travel and will now travel to space on another New Shepard flight. Following this, Bezos stated that he would send Damon and 82-year-old Wally Funk to space. Damon will be the first paying customer. Simultaneously, Funk will become the world’s oldest woman astronaut.

Allow us to inform you that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will participate in the first space launch of his rocket business Blue Origin’s New Shepard on July 20. July 20 is the anniversary of Apollo 11’s lunar landing. Texas will be the launch site for the space trip. Bezos resigned as CEO of Amazon on July 5 to focus exclusively on Blue Origin.

Only the winning bidder will be included in the space travel auction. This sale drew 6,000 bidders from 143 countries. Still, the winning bid is $2.8 million (around Rs 20 crore). The auction’s proceeds will benefit the Blue Origin Foundation’s Club for the Future.
