Who are Bert and Ernie?
Do they have a date? Are they a couple? Before we get into all the rumors and facts, let’s talk about who they are. and more about what they do for a living. Bert and Ernie are two Muppets, in a nutshell. Jim Henson made the Muppets, which are a group of puppets, in 1955.
The Jim Henson Company also called Muppets, Inc., Henson Associates, Inc., and Jim Henson Productions, Inc., was the original owner. The company was based in Los Angeles, California. This company is best known for how it changed the way puppets are made.
At first, Sam and Friends was a short-term TV show (1955-1960). It became famous after being on Sesame Street (1960–present) and was known all over the world. Frank Oz and Jim Henson were the first people to play these characters. The first time around, Henson played Bert and Oz played Ernie.
But after the first practice, they switched roles and made them bigger. Ernie was played by Jim Henson until he died in 1990. After Jim Henson, Steve Whitmire and Billy Barkhurst took over the role, and now Peter Linz plays the part.
The idea behind this show was to show that two people who think and act differently can still be friends and hang out together. Ernie, who is usually stupid and makes hasty decisions, comes up with an idea, which makes Bert angry.
In one episode of Bert and Ernie, Bert is quietly reading the newspaper when Ernie says, “But!” about something. Bert calms down and tells him to be quiet and let him work, but he keeps making mistakes, which makes Bert angry in the end.
Are Bert and Ernie Dating?
The Muppets are a group of puppets. Bert and Ernie live together in 123 Sesame Street’s basement, where they have an apartment. Even though they share the same room and bedroom, they each have their own bed and sleep in separate places. There are rumors that they are gay couples because of all these ideas.
Sesame Workshop, on the other hand, keeps denying the rumors and assumptions that they are gay. Even though they share a house and a bedroom, they are only best friends. Also, Bert is seen talking to and being interested in the female characters on the show.
Many of the first episodes of The Muppet Show show him interacting with female characters. Bert singing to Connie Stevens and talking about how he feels is a great example of this.
In an interview with Queerty in September 2018, one of Sesame Street’s writers, Mark Saltzman, said that Bert and Ernie were based on his own relationship with film editor Arnold Glassman.
Sesame Workshop told them that Bert and Ernie are just good friends and have no sexual desires because they are puppets. Frank Oz, who was the first and made most of the Muppet characters for The Jim Henson Company, answers the question of whether or not Bert and Ernie are gay. He writes in a tweet, “I made Bert. I know what he is and who he is.” He also says that he wants to clear up the confusion and rumors.

Frank Oz, who played Bert in the original production, said that Bert and Ernie are not gay. He said, “They’re not a gay couple, of course. But why do you ask that? Does it make a difference? Why does it matter if someone is only gay? There’s a lot more to a person than being straight or gay.” Sesame Workshop also said, “No, Bert and Ernie aren’t gay. They’re best friends.”
Oz also wrote, “When a character is made to be gay, it is important that it be known that it is gay. It’s also important that characters who weren’t made gay be accepted as gay. Oz kept talking about the facts on Twitter and telling his followers that he didn’t think it was honest to call Bert and Ernie gay.
He also wrote on Twitter, “The same need I’d have if Bert was named a linebacker for the Colts. It’s not truthful.” he thanked everyone and said, “I’ve been tweeting for way too long.
It was good, though. I also learned something very important. Thanks to everyone who followed me on Twitter. Next time, I’d like to know, “If Bert and Ernie were gay, would they be different from how they are now?”
